Resource for Gemologists in the US
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Deb wrote to me recently and I thought this would be a good explanation to her question, as she is a Gemologist in the States:
This was her first contact…
Is your site a good resource for gemologists in the US? If so, could you explain how it would be useful.
I may have overlooked it, but what is the membership fee and how often does it have to be renewed.
Thank you,
Deb (surname withheld), G.G.

This was my FIRST answer:
G’day Deb and many thanks for your email
Most of our Members are people involved in the jewelry trade (not gemologists or valuers) but those who buy and sell jewelry on eBay or the Markets or in their own online or off line stores.
Our Members come from all over the world - not just the States.
We have a easy to follow Jewelry Appraisal Course (like Dummy’s Guide to Appraisals) for those who want to learn a little more, but the big draw card is the three complimentary Loose Gemstone and Jewelry Appraisals our Members get each month.
You can find more details here:
http://www.online-jewelry-appraisals.net/benefits/
OR from the Main page of the Members Website.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards. David

Then Deb wrote back with some further queries…
David,
Thank you so much for you immediate response. I am a gemologist and do appraisals as a part of my job. What I really am interested in learning is, if your site would be a good resource for assisting me with some of my appraisals (getting gemstone prices, researching estate pieces, etc.).
Have a wonderful day and looking forward to hearing from you.
Deb

So finally I wrote back with this information - which is the important part I wanted you all to read as it may help you too.
G’day again Deb and many thanks for your swift reply.
Just two points here - plus a special offer you can’t refuse
Firstly; there are NO lists of prices or Antiques items etc. While we personally worked within the Antique Jewelry Trade having three retail shops for over 35 years, we became the “Go To Guys” for other appraisers to get Antique and Vintage Valuations.
So we ‘built in’ that to the Online Jewelry Appraisal Software.
Secondly; the biggest problem throughout the appraisal world is two standards, which the GIA and our own GAA *TRY* to satisfy. That is:
- a method by which everyone can use the same standards - so we all end up with the same results - within reason.
- a method by which each appraisal provides a specific description (together with photo if possible) to identify each and every item we appraise.
Consistency - consistency - consistency.
Enter the Online Jewelry Appraisal Software System.
With one database - everyone uses the same gemstone, gold prices, manufacture and setting costs and so on. This provides consistency and avoids the wild inflated and variable prices seen in the marketplace.
With one database - everyone gets the same standard descriptions with photos if required, to a standard HIGHER than required by the Insurance Industry - the people we really do the appraisal for.
All our Business to business clients (B2b) can change the letterheads and address contact information on each Certificate to Brand their own business. Those retail store clients can complete a complex appraisal and print the results in under 15 minutes - in store. Higher profits for them as we have a price structure so good, they can easily double or triple their profits - sometimes more!
Everybody wins…
EXCEPT - there is a reluctance by the Gemology Trade to embrace the new technology. I think they don’t understand it so are afraid it will replace them. That is NOT our intention, and many of your Jewelry Trade (and some gemologists) really love the system.
There are other software packages of course - but none have the Antique and Vintage adjustments built in - or the convenience of doing this online - without any major investment.
- Plus no other company can compete with our prices.
That just leaves the security aspect. Our SECURE servers will keep your appraisals in our databases for up to seven years. It even sends out notices to remind our clients after each year for renewals (know what that does for your bottom line profits) and if there is a sudden ‘Spike’ in the Gold price. No longer a worry for individuals.
So here’s the deal - told you there was one coming
Try a complimentary Appraisal Kit for yourself. See what it can do for you. Push it, stretch it - see if it answers your problems and at a price which is simply brilliant (we have held prices for the trade for over two years and do not expect a change for 2008).
Remember there is also our great support staff to help you PLUS access to a qualified gemologist Valuer with over 35 years experience - ME!
Please go here to register. If you don’t like it - fine. But at least then you’ll know and can stop guessing.
http://www.online-jewelry-appraisals.biz/ and use STEP one to start your journey.
Remember Members get three complimentary Kits per month, but if you are in the Trade you might need more than that. See INSIDE the Valuation Manager for more details.
Kind regards. David
